I was wondering if anyone knows any good places to find floor layouts or pictures of warehouses turned into houses. I was thinking that when i buy a house i might just buy a warehouse or a plot of land and build a warehouse and then make that my house.
I'm pretty much looking for an open floor plan with the only walls being for a bathroom. I was also thinking of having it 2 floors, the second floor only having floor space on either end with a catwalk of some type and maybe have walls around those to make them bedrooms. Does anyone have any ideas of where I can find some good floor designs or pictures of anything like this?House design for a warehouse?
Everything you want points to the standard ';loft'; design.
Large commercial buildings / factories in inner cities converted to the extreme open concept look are fabulous to say the least.
I can think of a dozen amazing designs seen on TV - HGTV, as buddy above me says - and also by googling ';loft'; or ';loft layout'; in text and Image searches. (the latter generates good results.)
I'm a huge fan of open concept designs, and bought a house 5 years ago with 900 Sq ft. of windows just on the back side of the house (130 feet long.)
If you were here I could design you an amazing loft / warehouse design on my Architect 3D 4.0 program (free download off limewire.com) in about 10 minutes.
I'm going to toss a couple things at you:
Steel buildings:
You can buy brand new steel buildings (round tops) with 20' ceilings, eg 40 x 100 (4000 SF) here in Toronto for 55K CAD delivered, and another 12K installed (on a poured concrete pad.) You can do window cutouts, and so forth.
There are dealers all over the US that carry and custom build these to your specs.House design for a warehouse?
Consider http://www.holdfast.com/icf.php or http://www.polysteel.com/
These are especially good if you live in hurricane prone areas.
Check out http://www.archivaldesigns.com/ for plans layout ideas, they have some nice stuff - or google open floor building plans
Happy hunting.
TRY HGTV . COM THEY HAVE SHOWN THOSE KIND OF REMODELS ON T.V BEFORE. THEY ARE REALLY NEAT LOOKING PLACES. AS FOR ME I WOULD LOVE TO LIVE IN A REMODELED BARN, I LOVE RUSTIC!!! GOOD LUCK
Olympia Steel Buildings offers great information and pricing on their products for free at: www.Olympiabuildings.com. I have attached a link below showing how their buildings may be utilized as residential structures. As Construction Managers we recently used their pre-fabricated structures on a commercial Golf Course in New York. Their quality is very good and they have great installation crews. Their pricing is also very competitive. Best of luck with your housing plans.
